| Hemi Engine History
Hemi is your word for fast, powerful, and coveted engines! The Hemi Engine was first used in World War II in the Thunderbolt planes, as well as another version, used in the Patton tanks. Harry Westlake, in 1948, created a powerful 6 cylinder engine for the makers of the Jaguar. For the day and age of the 1950's through the 60's, the world was wowed by the sheer power of 180 horsepower engines, that later grew to 425! An amount of power at the time that was unheard of. Every man on the block knew the neighbor who owned one. |

| HEMI Engine Specifications
When you're talking about a HEMI engine, you're primarily talking about power. This popular engine has become the main reason to spend your money on a truck or vehicle that features it. When talking power, the HEMI started its career in the first generation with the ability to put out around 345 horsepower and 375 pounds of torque from a 5.7 liter engine (in the Dodge Ram pickup). |

For those of us who reached adulthood in the 1960's the hottest cars on the road were Dodges and Plymouth's. In 1964 Chrysler Corporation came out with a racing engine that featured a half circle ( hemisphere) combustion chamber and spark plug centralized in the chamber. |

| 5.7 Hemi Engine
In today’s economy we are all looking for ways to save a few dollars, and still have power when driving our vehicles. One of the ways I see to do this is to invest in a 5.7 Hemi V8 engine. For me when I see a hill coming up I want to know that I am going to have the power in my car to carry me to the top without any hesitation. If I am taking my pickup out hunting or just 4-wheeling I need something that is going to see me through to the end without losing any power. I want the power to show up my friends and family when we are competing. |

| 6.1 Hemi V8 Engine
Hemi engines have been around for many years. The word “hemi” is an abbreviation for the word hemispherical. This engine is designed around a circular shape, with the intake and exit valves being circular and on opposite sites of the combustion chamber. This system was designed to improve the function of a combustion engine, but few manufacturers use this style of engine due to increased production costs and a heavier weight. Chrysler is the main company that installs hemi engines in its vehicles. |

| Hot Rod Hemi
True Muscle Car Power At Its Finest There’s nothing like gut wrenching pure unadulterated horse power. The engine that comes to my mind when you talk about pure horse power is the 426 Hemi. Produced with heads, that had hemispherical combustion chambers and a set of valves sitting at a 58-degree angle, on top of the combustion chambers. This engine allowed a Hot Rodder more airflow and bigger valves. The results were mega power output! The Hemi was a sign of the times. |

The HEMI engine was developed in 1948 by Harry Westlake. The first Hemi engine in an automobile was a 6 cylinder engine for the Jaguar. Then in 1951 Chrysler came out with a 180 horsepower HEMI V-8 engine on several models. You may think that 180 horsepower doesn't sound like very much horsepower but back then it was quite a bit and people were skeptical of how it would hold up. |
